A Hindi poem about an amateur poet who has gradually become silent, withdrawn from others and from his own emotions, questioning whether the poet within him has merely fallen asleep or disappeared.

जो न करना था वो भी कर ही गया है शायद,
सँभलते-सँभलते भी बिखर ही गया है शायद,
बचता फिरता है, कदरदानों से भी आजकल,
ख़ुद की नज़रों से जैसे उतर ही गया है शायद,
रहने लगा है अब तो ख़ामोश ही ज़्यादातर वो,
कुछ सुनने-सुनाने से भी डर ही गया है शायद,
रहता है तन्हा-तन्हा सा, ख़ुद में ही खोया हुआ,
अपने भी जज़्बातों से, बिफर ही गया है शायद,
न पूछ “साकेत" से, है कहाँ शौकिया कवि तेरा,
सो गया आख़िरकार, या मर ही गया है शायद।
