Nepalese change Skills

May 17, 2016. I still remember the day when I called my Dad from Kathmandu and said “Buwa Darsan, mero Australia ko Visa aayo ni ”. My dad paused for few seconds then I heard a long sigh of relief and replied “La, aba Ghar aaija tayari garnu parxa”. That’s the Proudest moment for my dad not because he wanted me to study hard and be a successful person instead most of the wealthy people in my community were either from Japan, UK, USA or Australia, and he wanted me to be one of them. He wanted me to earn good money and build a three-story house, not his fault but this is what our community values for.

Once landed in Sydney, I then followed the prevailing trend of travelling around Opera, Sydney Harbour, Manly, Bondi Beach taking photographs uploading on social media. After couple of days, as most of us did, I started seeking out Job via Jora, Gumtree and asking friends/relatives to help find me any odd jobs that could potentially help me make Money. Although I had bachelor’s degree in Nepal, I had no confidence on my skill sets, so began with a cleaning and Kitchen Hand job after couple of rejections and few weeks of unpaid training. And this is the “Standard Process” most of have gone through which needs to be fixed and the process has already set off.

Even though I was the part of same Ecosystem, I am delighted to say that I got myself out from this “Standard Process” and would encourage everyone to do so. To make this happen, I recommend everyone to equip yourself with required skills and trainings so you can easily get a part-time job while studying. Research about the most Skills in demand in the region you are applying for, this will not only help you to get a job but may also help you in future to apply for Permanent Residency if you wish to stay longer.

To sum up, Time and Money go hand in hand, so don’t let you and your parent’s desire to be futile. Take full Advantage of all freely available resources around you and be a skilled professional so that, you like me can achieve your dream to have a wealthy, respected and happy life. So, what’s stopping you to be a part of this Shifting Dynamics in our Community?
