Introduction:-

We are all aware of food waste at weddings and parties. On these occasions, a lot of food is deposited in the garbage. Even in hotels, we see a lot of leftover food. There are varieties of dishes that are served at weddings that have become a tradition. Various types of dishes are prepared and served to guests. People devour more food than actual capacity and throw food in containers.

On the one hand, millions of people suffer from malnutrition, while the waste of millions of tons of food every day is ironic. Every year, a third of the food prepared in the world is wasted. Even extreme food waste plays an important role in climate change, as food waste is dispersed in landfills, which produce methane gas.

Food waste: a global concern:-

Not only the government but also the social organizations are worried about this food waste. The World Food and Agriculture Organization, the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the World Food Program have jointly initiated a project to prevent food waste worldwide.

Alarming data:-

According to a report by the World Food Organization, every seventh person in the world is asleep. India is in 67th place in the World Hunger Index. The country produces 251 million tons of cereals every year, but every Indian neighbourhood is sleeping hungry. According to a report by the Indian Institute of Public Administration, 23 million tons of pulses, 120 million tons of fruit and 21 million tons of vegetables in India deteriorate every year due to defects in the distribution system.

Tips to prevent food waste:-

-Buy wisely when you buy food; Try to buy only those things that can stay fresh for a long time. This will also save you from unnecessary waste.

-Store food properly. The maximum waste of food comes from not storing or storing it incorrectly.

-Never chill foods such as potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, garlic, etc. Always store them in an open and dry place.

-Somehow, people ignore the date of manufacture and the expiration of the article they buy. These foods become useless after the expiration date. In such a situation, always try to buy canned food; First of all, check the production date and the expiry date.

-Clean the refrigerator from time to time at short intervals to avoid food waste. In this way, you can keep your refrigerator clean and hygienic, while you can protect yourself from diseases caused by the consumption of old and stale foods.

-Fruits and vegetables also become a little colourless, so they become household waste. Therefore, it is advisable to bring more fruits and vegetables so that they can be consumed in 2 or 3 days.

-Prepare compost at home. If food is also wasted at home, do not throw it away, store it in a large plastic container and place it in an open place. It will become compost after a few months that you can use in your garden. This will help prevent the spread of household waste.

-Do not serve excessively on the plate; Always serve as much food as possible in the dish while eating. Never serve food on a plate any more than is necessary.

Conclusion:-

Women at home can be partners and can help a lot in this. In particular, they instil in children the habit of serving whatever they want on a plate. The contribution of religion, philosophy, thought and tradition in the process of this change can also create a new environment.
