Raman and Abdul had been arguing for hours. Each insisted that his religious belief was better than the other. They were on the verge of an ugly fight when their parents intervened. They reminded them of how as kids they celebrated Diwali and Eid with equal excitement. Abdul would help Raman decorate his house with diyas and Raman would accompany Abdul to the mosque on every Eid.
”You were better off as kids", said Raman's ma. ”Raman, have you forgotten how much you loved the sevaiyan I cooked on Eid?", asked Abdul's ammi. "Remember, Humanity is your religion", chorused their fathers. Raman and Abdul felt ashamed and hugged each other.
