Ballet and Modern are very similar forms of dance. They are both distinctive forms of dance and they both hold a specific purpose for their movements: portraying a story. These two dances were derived years ago and were carried throughout many generations of dance. Though both dances include movement that is not similar to one another, they do, in fact, have common purposes in portraying a dance through rhythm, movement, and expression. Stories portrayed within these dances are evident through the movements and the identification of its rhythm in order to portray its story. As stated before, these dance are the most common dances amongst the dancing history. “Both ballet and modern dance have a distinct set of aesthetics but since the late 20th Century on into the early 21st Century there is a merging of the two. A discussion of the following proves relevant for the defining of the difference between the aesthetics of ballet and modern and how the aesthetics of the two are merging.
