Unmasked

It took Pandemic for all of us to finally behave like human and yet, sadly some of us still have not changed. This tiniest of the bugs have shaken the mankind like never before. But virus is the last thing that we can put the blame on. We as a human have been acting selfishly in the interest of our own which has unbalanced the nature’s cycle. Hence, every now and then we will be fighting numerous such bugs in future too. But as they say, with every existing problem, there is a solution to it. Covid came and soon scientist came up with a theory ( and quite effective one) that face mask can help us disrupting the chain of the virus and even protect us as well. Large number of healthcare professionals have saved themselves from just a mask in this pandemic. It proved out that MASK is mandatory now and in the future too. But what impact it has caused on the other side!! Has anyone thought about it? I am sure not everyone likes to cover themselves behind that piece of cloth 24*7. We can’t flash that smile nor we can’t read people as we used too. Kids have been affected too. Imagine a new born infant who has seen her mother for the first time and she was covered with the mask. This kid stays home all the time and he/she is not used to see her mother with the mask. So what happens when they see their mom’s face covered? Being a healthcare professional, I have come across a kid who was crying ever since she came to the hospital. We could not figure out why and we were thinking of all the medical causes that could lead to her making cry. Then after few hours, her mother came to us requesting that doctor may I remove my mask? And the obvious answer was no because there is a risk of transmission to everyone within the hospital and to her and her baby too. To which she said doctor! My baby is not used to see me in the mask. You all are thinking of  all sorts of causes and investigations but let me just remove it and may be she will stop crying. So we allowed her to remove the mask and we all were astonished to see her baby flashing that big broad smile immediately. 

This incident left all of us thinking that may be Unmasking her mother was not a bad idea. Her baby’s smile was way more precious than any other thing at that moment. Even Covid would have thought that let the mother unmask. I would not be infecting her this time.
