Poker is the family of card games played over internet that combines gambling strategy and different skills. It involves betting as an intrinsic part of the play and determine the winner of each hand according to the combination of player’s cards which remains hidden until the end of the hand.

Now coming to what online poker is. It is simply the traditional card game of poker played over the internet. In live poker, you walk in, choose from the games they have listed sign up and wait for the tournament to start. It is clear who own the poker room , who gets paid and how poker works. But it’s not same online. There are more hands in a play and it’s not clear to whom each hand belongs to. It’s all done online, behind computers, firewalls and servers. You will likely never see that online poker sites have a physical location.

There are several advantages of playing poker online. In online poker, poker action is available 24*7, no matter when you want to play , you will always find a game or tournament. You need not travel to the nearest casino , no tipping that is you will not have any dealers to tip. You get faster game speed and more hands per hour to play.

You get huge game selection. As you go in poker rooms or casino you get limited option to go with. But online you get several game options to play.

But as every coin has two faces, online poker too has some disadvantages.

Its great if you are a winning player, but if you are a losing player, then you will loose your money at a faster rate. You always need to have very good skills of money management, to play poker online or offline. It is found that it is easier to get distracted playing online. You need to have good focus and patience to play. In casino, inspite of all the noice and hoopla, it is easier to concentrate on the task in hand, which is playing poker, as everybody is involves in the same task.

Online playing leads to the loss of personal interaction as players also personally interact while playing live and online playing is only limited to faceless chatting with those who choose to engage you. Online poker leads to less social experience.

Online poker is kind of addicting or habit forming as it has ease to access and hard to resist the lure of the game. Poker played online is insidious in a way that live poker is not, as you always convince yourself that since you are physically home or at work you are not avoiding or shrinking your family or professional time. But actually you are doing that.

Online poker is not mutually exclusive. For the serious, skilled, disciplined players who play without distraction or addiction, online play has much to recommend it. But its risky for casual player, as they have limited bankroll and experience, and somewhere lack the important skills like self-control, patience, focus, fearlessness, adaptability and most important ability to learn from mistakes , which are all a quality of good poker player. So be careful while you are enjoying playing poker.

Have a good time with Poker!
