Details: Air Quality Index depicts the extent of air pollution at a particular location. In 2019, as part of a worldwide survey, it was discovered that 21 out of the 30 most polluted cities were in India. Over 50 over cent of this pollution comes from industry, followed by 27 per cent from vehicles, 17 per cent from crop burning and 7 per cent from domestic cooking. Over 2 million Indians lost their lives to causes attributed to air pollution.
More Indians are seeking greener pastures abroad. For trackless centuries, humanity has been on the move. Global stats reveal that Indians are moving in search of better jobs and medical facilities, and the new generation does their best to adapt to the new cultures to live the life of their dreams. Lakhs of Indians have migrated to foreign nations in the last few years. A majority of Indians form a large part of counties with scarce populations. Although the country's economy is strengthened through the flow of remittance due to immigrants, there is a brain drain on account of its intelligent and talented professionals settling and working in foreign nations.
Can we improve the air quality in India and save our children from being exposed to 20-30 cigarettes equivalent smoke every day?
Several cities, including Solapur and Ahmedabad, have seen a reduction in PM10 particulates over the last few years. Reports show that it is due to the measures taken to reduce sulphur from diesel fuel and more vigorous enforcement by the local authorities.
