After having played 539 Test matches with the traditional red ball, India played its first day-night pink ball test match against Bangladesh from 22nd November, 2019.

There are three main manufacturers of cricket ball in the international cricket. These are as follows :-

1) Kookaburra,

2) Dukes, and,

3) Sanspareils Greenlands ( SG ).

India uses SG balls vichar manufacturer in Meerut, India. England, Ireland and Westindies use Dukes balls which are manufactured in England. All other cricket playing nations use Kookaburra balls which are manufactured in Australia.

The seam of a pink ball is more pronounced with an equal mix of synthetic and linen fibres. On the other hand, the seam of a red ball is entirely made up of synthetic fibre. Pink ball is coated with nitrocellulose based lacquer.

The first pink ball Test match was held in November, 2015 between Australia and New Zealand at the Adelaide Oval. This match was won by Australia by three wickets. Since then, 10 more day-night pink ball Test matches have been played after 2015, Australia being the most experienced team in day-night Test cricket for not only playing the highest number of matches but also winning 5 out of them.
