Dushyant

In ancient times there was a very mighty king named Dushyant. The subjects lived happily in his kingdom. Once King Dushyant went to the forest for hunting. He was accompanied by princely elephants, horses, chariots, many soldiers and state officials.

King Dushyant moved forward, stroking the vast forest, chasing and chasing violent animals. The ruckus from his army, the sound of the drums, the chariot rattling and the roar of the soldiers caused such an uproar that all the animals of the forest fled to other places.

So Dushyant entered another forest in search of prey. After crossing it, they found a Usar plain. After crossing it, Dushyant reached a vast forest where there were many ashrams. This forest was filled with huge trees, shrubs, vines and many different types of flowering trees. There was cool, fragrant and refreshing body air in that forest. On one side of the forest was the ashram of the very delightful Kanva Rishi. Various kinds of birds were chirping and buzzing in it. On the other side of the ashram, a river filled with pure water was flowing slowly.

Dushyant ordered his elephants, horses, chariots and soldiers to stay outside the ashram. He said I am going to his ashram to meet sage Kanva. You guys stay here till I come back from there.

After giving this order, Dushyant entered the ashram in simple disguise. After wandering around the ashram, when he did not find Kanva Rishi, he asked in a loud voice, 'Is there anyone here?'

Hearing Dushyant's question, a very beautiful girl in an ascetic disguise emerged from the hut. She was blessed with girls Rupavati, Sheilvati and virtue. On the other hand, Dushyant was also of a structured body, broad chest, strong shoulders, long arms and a charming personality. Looking at Dushyant, Kanya said, 'Welcome to the guest God'. After this she asked him the reason for his traditional well-being, introduction and reason for coming to the ashram. Dushyant said, "I am Dushyant, the son of Rajarshi Mahatma Ilil and have come to see Maharishi Kanva." Shakuntala said, "My father has gone out to bear fruit. Will come in no time '. At this, Dushyant asked for the introduction of the girl and wanted to marry her. The girl said, "I am considered the daughter of Mahatma Kanva. You talk to them about marriage. '

When Dushyant asked about the introduction of the girl in depth, the girl told that some time ago, Maharishi Vishwamitra was doing penance. On seeing his harsh penance, Indra was afraid that Vishwamitra was doing penance to get the post of Indra. So he sent Apsara Maneka to him to disturb Vishwamitra's penance.

Maneka captivated Vishwamitra by showing her captivating image, emerging youth and various types of gestures. Vishwamitra became enamored of him after seeing his form, youth and qualities. He calls Maneka to him and the two get busy with the play. Shakuntala was born from Maneka's womb. After the birth of Shakuntala, Maneka left the newborn girl and went to Indralok.

Seeing that newborn girl in that deserted forest, Acharya Kanva picked him up and brought him to his ashram. She raised Shakuntala like a daughter. On finding out that Shakuntala is a Kshatriya girl, Dushyant proposed to her to marry Gandharva. After a little hesitation Shakuntala agreed to it. After staying in the ashram for a few days, Dushyant returned to his capital, promising that he would call Shakuntala soon.

After Kanva's return to the ashram, Shakuntala informed him of Dushyant's arrival at his ashram and his Gandharva marriage with him. Kanva blessed Shakuntala to be fortunate. Shakuntala remembered Dushyant day and night and waited for his call. Shakuntala gave birth to a bright, beautiful, talented son in due course of time. The child received education in all subjects under the supervision of Kanva. This child was very strong and courageous. He easily subdued lions, tigers and buffaloes. He straightened out the punishments of all the wicked and the wicked who live near the ashram and who are hurting the residents of the ashram. So the Ashrams started calling him 'Sarvadman'.

After a long time, when no one came from Dushyant's place to summon Shakuntala, the sage Kanva sent Shakuntala and her son to Dushyant. Dushyant could not recognize Shakuntala for some time due to memory defect. But after recognizing him, he gave due respect to Shakuntala. Dushyant named his son Bharata and made him crown prince. After Dushyant's death, Bharat assumed the throne and ruled the country with great skill. It is said that India is named after our country. On the meeting, love and marriage of Dushyant and Shakuntala, Mahakavi Kalidas has composed the poem 'Abhigyanasakuntalam'.
